Two Academic Programs Come Together to
Erase Illiteracy in the Big City
Veronica Manley and Rachel Slaughter, local
educators, have come together to erase illiteracy in the big city. Veronica Manley, Executive Director of
Motivated to Accel; and Rachel Slaughter, Executive Director of Literacy
University (LU) are determined to give low-literacy adults a chance to get a
foot in the door of corporate America. Both ladies run academic schools in
Clifton Heights, PA. Motivated to Accel is a brick and mortar, school
environment for home school students.
Literacy University is a program that provides literacy and study skill
classes to students Pre-K through adult. Through a concerted effort, the two
educators are opening a community center geared toward The Humanities. “Meet Me
at the Falls Community Center” (MMFCC) is located on 4 Rockbourne Road, Clifton
Heights, PA. At MMFCC, instructors will offer classes and courses to the local
Delaware County community and surrounding areas including Philadelphia. Courses
for adult learners will be offered in topics like “How to Write a Resume,” “How to Land Your Dream Job,” and “Reading and Writing for Success.” For young people, the center will offer
classes in acting, singing, dancing, cheerleading, how to DJ, and more. The
ultimate goal of the center is to excite young people about reading through
activities that involve The Arts. Think “Fame” meets “Saved by the Bell.”
There will be an Open House of MMFCC on
April 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The Open House is Free. All are
welcome to come and meet the guest instructor and see the facility.

Rachel
Slaughter was a classroom teacher for over 20 years. Now, as a Literacy Consultant and Reading
Leader, Slaughter spends her time running Literacy University. She continues to tutor students in reading on
Saturdays and writing trade books on motivating young readers.
“Literacy is the cornerstone of our civilized
existence. I have dedicated more than half my life to literacy
instruction,” Rachel Slaughter, LU
said. “My vocation is to pass on this
joy to others. I wish to enrich young
people's lives by celebrating reading and writing.”
Slaughter
has defined her reading program and the LU brand by keeping a keen focus on
young students who experience trouble with literacy based on poor
comprehension, vocabulary snags, and writing-phobic feelings.
“I may not
wear a cape, but I do have an “S” on my chest. I can fix all reading
problems,” Slaughter boasts. Rachel
Slaughter is the author of a young adult book, and dozens of feature articles on world renowned people in
The Arts. For more information on Literacy University and Rachel Slaughter, log
